Z axis on RS3D stopped reporting

My recently purchased RS3D has been running fine far a week or so, but today I noticed the Z axis stopped reporting.
I reboot the Pi, and tried shutting it down and restarting, but the Z axis is still dead.
I can see the N-S and E-W reporting just fine, so I do have an ethernet connection.
I am running wired ethernet as well.
My stations is R83A4. It is a DIY kit, and the power supply is 3 amps.
Here is the latest log file:

RSH.R83A4.2024-08-31T22_47_19.logs.tar (2.3 MB)

Any idea what has happened or what I should look at?
Thanks!

Strange that on the station view page, the Z axis IS updating, but when I look at the dataview page, NOW the N-S and Z are NOT updating!
What is going on???

Well, as of today, Sunday 9/1, my RS3D is back to normal and all 3 channels are working.
I didn’t do anything and it “fixed” itself, so I was wondering if the server was having problems?
Interesting I didn’t hear anything from anyone… kinda disappointing…

hello pomonabill220,

yes, there was indeed a server problem on sunday and into yesterday, the data center supporting our servers had issues which prevented access to all of their clients’ servers, including ours.

there is a twitter account dedicated to reporting any issues and the current status with our servers. in the future, please monitor this feed for up-to-date reporting on any server issues which may be affecting Shake data transmission:

glad to hear you’re up and running!

cheers,
richard

Sorry for the late reply… and thank you!
I dispise twitter and will NOT support anything the musk does, so I delete my account as soon as I see what the status is!
Also, today and yesterday, the Z axis is VERY erratic and is very far behind, like 5 HOURS!!!
The North and East graphs are up to date, SO FAR…
I would think that since they (your server) are so lousy that you should find another, more reliable, provider!
I (we) paid GOOD money for this thing and the service is NOT reliable! Sounds like you are trying to keep your costs down/increase profit!
I am not very happy with this!

hello pomonabill220,

thanks for the feedback, sorry to hear your expectations have resulted in such gross disappointment. without going into the details, i can say, absolutely, that every one of your “deductions” regarding how we operate as a business is flat-out wrong.

additionally, there seems to be a misunderstanding regarding our obligations to you. in short, our obligations are limited to exactly one: deliver the world’s only plug-n-play low-cost seismometer to your doorstep, thus allowing you to be a part of the world’s largest seismic network, the first of its kind.

this is an achievement we are extremely proud of and is made possible only because of the passionate devotion and prodigious talents each member of the Raspberry Shake team possesses and chooses to share with us and all citizen-scientists end-users, like yourself.

all data services we provide to the hobbyist community are free, while at the same time comprising a very vital aspect of our mission and mandate. to this end, we do the best we can to keep up with this ever-growing network, constantly carrying out upgrades and improvements on all the computers and software systems making up the seismic-data ecosystem that is the Raspberry Shake network. as a consequence, you can indeed expect that temporary disruptions in data transmission will occur from time to time; such is the reality of a real-time data-streaming service operating 24/7/36[56].

given how deeply disenchanted you are so quickly after coming online, i perfectly understand if you ultimately decide that it is in your best interest to power-down your unit; (you have no obligations to us whatsoever). however, i would kindly ask that, when this is your decision, you consider donating the unit to a local high school for use in their science classes.

if, on the other hand, you do decide to stick around to be a contributor to this first-ever experiment in citizen-science, i can assure you that any and all future posts made up of disparaging comments, insults, or negative accusations based on little to no information, (etc.), will get you absolutely nowhere.

thank you again for your participation and i apologize in advance for any further disruptions you may, or may not, experience.

richard
