Sensor installed at high school in central Utah, USA this summer (2026). Quiet seismicity in area so no events available for observation. Crude test of sensor by tapping on concrete floor where sensor is located…all three axes seemed to be functioning. Recent Columbia 7.4 quake suggests z-axis failure. See attached screen images from ShakeNet app. Please send new geophone.

thanks for the report. for HW issues such as this, please send an email with a full description of the problem to [email protected], also including photos of the inside of the instrument itself.
while it’s possible the geophone is malfunctioning, it’s not very likely. instead, you should confirm that all the connections between the geophone and the Shake board are tightly coupled as they should be. it is entirely possible that this is able to be fixed without needing delivery of new parts.
