Shakes online: 2769

I’m a novice and if possible would like some help understanding my readings,
Shakes online: 2769, I’m picking up, I believe to be low frequency spikes and vibration spikes.

Thank you very much Jason

Shake: R8708 I think this is more helpful/

Hello Ja1, and welcome to our community!

I think I can see them on your infrasound (HDF) sensor on DataView: https://dataview.raspberryshake.org/#/AM/R8708/00/HDF

Your RSBOOM is a very sensitive instrument, so it is able to pick up small, brief (and possibly sharp) changes that aren’t always obvious at first glance. And yes, they can appear in a way similar to the spikes we see.

In particular, as the instrument that detected them is the infrasound sensor, it’s something related to rapid change in pressure inside the area where the Shake is located. For example, strong wind gusts, air conditioning activity (start/stop) or other mechanical/natural sources that can create brief pressure pulses or low-frequency signals that travel quite efficiently through the air.

Understanding “what” causes the spikes is more difficult without more context, and it’s generally more complex to identify specific sources from a single sensor alone.

An exercise in observation you can do is to see if the spikes are completely random or if, over longer periods (a week or two) they tend to appear at more or less regular times.

Door and window closures will cause similar spikes. If you are in an apartment/condo, these could be from neighbors too.
