Using a Wifi dongle or Portable Router instead of ethernet

I will be using the RS1D but it will be used in a few different locations. I am not sure that all locations will have a wired ethernet connection, so I am exploring non-ethernet options.

Has anyone tried using a portable Wifi router (with ethernet ports that the RS1D could be plugged into) rather than a USB Wifi dongle? My thinking is that then the Wifi would be further away from the RS1D and therefore less likely to cause interference.

Yes, it is a sensible solution and some users have set it up successfully.
