Hello, I recently bought an RS4D. My sensor’s station ID is R9AF3.
However, the R9AF3 station already exists in Australia (I’m in Japan), although the sensor type seems different.
Is it possible that there are RS stations with the same ID?
Hello BuRi, and welcome to our community!
This is happening because there are two Shakes with the R9AF3
name, one in Australia (as you have seen) and then yours in Japan.
The StationCode is generated automatically by using the last 4 digits of the Raspberry Pi computer’s unique hardware address (commonly referred to as the “MAC” address) and appending them to the letter “R”. In some instances, it is possible that two devices have the same code, so what happens when a StationCode has already been assigned?
From our manual Naming convention page (Raspberry Shake Station Naming Convention ):
[…] it can happen that when a new Shake connects to the network, its StationCode has already been taken in the past by another Shake. In this case, in place of the letter “R”, the system will use the letter “S”. This is our failsafe to guarantee that there is no data mix and/or overlap with previously existing instrument data. If even the StationCode with the letter “S” has been already taken, then the system will cycle through the entire alphabet: “S” → “Z”, “Z” → “A”, “A” → “R”.
For your situation, you will then need to search for S9AF3
when your station is online and you’ll be able to find all the data you are recording on StationView/DataView and our other services.
Future Shake OS versions will be able to automatically detect this, providing our users an immediate confirmation of their Shake network code.
If you have any other questions, I remain available.
