RS4D Geophone "Counts"

When I look at my geophone on Swarm, I see that on the left it says counts. What are counts? Are they a way of measuring the energy of the shaking? Hope this question make sense.

Sincerely, Ezra.

Hi Ezra,

“Counts” are basically a measurement of the voltage recorded on the geophone circuit. So yes, they are a way of measuring the energy of shaking.

If you are viewing the station by connecting to the community data server, you can go to “wave settings” and then check the “Use calibrations” box. This will tell Swarm to use the instrument response data on the server to convert counts to velocity/acceleration units when viewing data.
