It would be nice if we could login from the main page. Like having the username and password boxes beside the login button or in the left bar and they would just disappear when logged in.

looking deeper at the possibilities, this particular implementation is not possible due to under-the-hood details which require login screen (and functionality) to appear on its own screen.
