My RS1D is not able to connect to the server, and is not viewable on the station map. Every time I go into rs.local, it says “Server connection: Not Connected”. I have tried rebooting it multiple times, but it still will not connect. This problem started when I tried to assign my shake a static IP, and when it rebooted, it did not connect to the server. I have not encountered this problem at all before this. I have also tried re-assigning it other IP’s, but it did not fix the issue. My shake is connected to the router in my house, and there are no firewalls present that I am aware of. I would appreciate any help trying to fix this, and I have attached the logs below for your reference. If you are unable to open the logs, please let me know. Thanks!
hi,
looking at the logs, the unit is unable to make a connection to the internet at all, this includes NTP servers as well as Shake data servers. unless you absolutely need a static IP to be assigned, it is preferred to let your router (DHCP, to be specific) assign the IP address to the unit.
cheers,
richard
Thank you for the info, is there any way I can fix this connectivity issue?
hi,
unless you have a specific reason that requires you to specify a fixed IP address, turn this off and reboot. the unit will do normal DHCP hand-shaking with the router, receive an IP address, and will likely return to a normal working state, like before.
in any case, as a test, what happens when you turn off static IP?
richard
Hello, I hope your day is going well. I just tried rebooting my shake, but it still says not connected. It is no longer connected to the static IP, but does not seem to be working. Here are the new logs RSH.R48E7.2021-08-26T05_21_05.logs.tar (3.6 MB)
hi there,
i see that the IP has changed, but the problem remains the same. for whatever reason, your router is not allowing any traffic to pass from the shake out to the internet.
since having an IP address that is eithr fixed or dynamic makes no difference, then the source of the problem is most likely due to something not related to the shake.
next test would be to connect this unit to a different router and see what happens. there is nothing special going on in the Shake to gain access to the internet when it is connected in the normal manner to a router operating in a normal way, if you see what i mean.
cheers,
richard
Hi, thank you for all the help, my seismograph is now working properly
hi there,
this is good news!
do you know what changed and why it went from ‘not working’ to ‘working properly’?
i like to keep myself informed as much as possible on problems and their solutions, to add to our library of knowledge when something like this pops up again for another user.
thanks in advance,
richard
Hello, sorry for the late reply. Actually, I was just messing around in settings, and turned on the Wifi, and it worked for a little while. I noticed that I could not view the data in the ShakeNet mobile app, after a few hours, it still said it was offline. I also opened a few ports on the router (and I’m not certain I did it correctly, refer to screenshot below). This was the same case for StationView, so I decided to reboot my shake. Once it finished rebooting, it refused to connect to the server, even after trying the solution that had worked beforehand. I attached the logs for your reference, please let me know if you see anything unusual. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day, and I look forward to hearing from you.

hi,
can you try this?
Please access your
rs.local/
page, go toSettings
(the gear icon high on the left), and then theData
tab. Try unchecking theForward Data
box and, after ~30 seconds, recheck it, then clickSave and Restart
The station should now be able to connect again.
sorry for the troubles,
richard
Hello, I tried checking and un-checking the data forwarding box, but it did not work. I re-connected my shake to another router, and now it is properly connected. It seems that the old router was having some issues, and that was most likely the cause of the problem. Thank you so much for the help, and I hope you have an amazing weekend!
Edit: It is still not showing on ShakeNet or StationView, but it normally takes a while to connect to those. If it still won’t connect after a few hours, I will post here.
Dear Shakers,
I am installing a RaspberryShake through a 4G router. Everything seems to be set up OK but Server Connection say Not Connected. I have tried the turning dataforwarding off for 30 secs and then turning it back on and that does not work. I have attached the log file. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Julian
