Hello,
I got my Shake Boom kit yesterday and installed it. I’m up and running and the infrasound part is working as you expect but the geophone channel while working is not picking up anything other than significant movement. You can see here about 12 hours of almost nothing.. It’s currently set up in my office on a table on and the floor is over the basement. I’d expect all kinds of noise but I can only get enough signal to make the spectrogram not a black square if I do introduce motion like intentionally tapping on the shake. shaking the table. or resonating the floor by bouncing my foot. For example I just did the foot bouncy floor thing enough to make my monitor arm shake but nothing above background shows up on the plot.
The signal at 13:18:34 is me tapping on the side of the Shake enclosure. I would expect this to be a very strong signal but it is only barely registering above background. Any signal that is above backround like the one at 12:26 is also me tapping on the shake.
In looking at other stations it seems like my geophone is much less sensitive than what is common. Let me know if there is anything to try to remedy this. or if this is indicitive of a problem geophone. Thanks.

Yes, I can see what you mean on DataView. Could I ask you to:
- Download the logs from the Shake (using the
Logs button in rs.local/)
- Go to
rs.local/heli or <ShakeIPAddress/heli>, open and download the second-latest image from each channel (one EHZ and one HDF)
And send them all (logs + images) to me?

The helicorder images confirmed what I was thinking: the signal from the geophone is not reaching the board, so you see a “flat” waveform coming in.
For documentation purposes, was the Raspberry Shake a DIY or a complete turnkey unit?
In any case, if possible, could you take some pictures of the cables between the geophone and the board? In order:
- One from the top of the geophone, and one from its side, slightly angled (like a 3/4 portrait)
- One showing the cable length between the geophone and the board
- And the last, showing the cables going into the connector on the blue board (probably the most difficult one)

When gathering the photos I saw that the + wire had pulled out of the terminal block.
I would have checked it before asking except on how I was mislead where strong readings were still registering. maybe the wire was almost touching or something. i don’t know but i’m working now. Thanks.

I can see that the Shake is now streaming good data on both channels; enjoy!
