What does a Discord Community of Shakers do that a Forum Community of Shakers doesn’t? In other words as someone who’s never used Discord, what’s the difference?

Hello Hadders, and welcome back to the community!

Great question! While our forum is fantastic for structured discussions and technical support, our new Discord community takes things to another level by offering real-time interaction and a much more dynamic and engaging space. For example:

  • Discord allows for live discussions, making it easier to have quick exchanges, brainstorm ideas, or ask questions and get immediate responses.
  • Many users said Discord feels more like hanging out with friends who share your passion. It’s perfect for connecting with fellow enthusiasts, educators, and researchers, exchanging ideas, and geeking out together over seismic activity.
  • Topics on Discord have been organized into channels (e.g., device setups, educational use, or earthquake detections), which makes it easy to jump into a conversation that interests you.
  • Much more to come in the following weeks/months, like interactive features, events, and other elements we are considering to make learning about seismology and Raspberry Shake even more fun and engaging.

Personally, I think it’s worth trying, and if you decide it’s not for you, all our usual contact/conversation channels will remain open as always.
