Data Gaps in waveform

Hi, I have recently realized gaps in data collected using RS3D (gif attached). Please advise on what could be the issue.

Hello James,

Thank you for posting the logs from your Shake. From them, it appears that there are transmission errors between the sensors and the Shake boards. An example is in this log file:

Please verify that all the connections between the sensors and the blue Shake board, and between the Shake board and the Pi board underneat are solid. If your Shake is outside in an enclousure, please verify that the enclosure is still keeping the moisture outside, and that the connectors are still in nominal shape (without visible deposits).

There are also some NTP services (time synchronization) errors:

2021 273 12:50:49>>	Time adjustment M0: HARD RESET. This will result in a one-time time-tear.
2021 273 12:50:49>>	5.0: NTP Time (Init): NTP:	1633006248.909327030

This can also cause gaps on data transmission, so please check that the internet connection of your Shake is stable without drops in signal quality (since I see that your Shake is connected via WiFi).

Thank you.

I have seen the same in RS4D and it is a problem with power supply.
The RS3D may be reporting insufficient voltage in /var/log/kern.log

Hi Stormchaser and Alejandro,

Thanks for your suggestions to solving this problem.
After a process if elimination, I realized that there was loose wire connection/ contact inside the power supply connector and the ethernet connector. I had to pull apart the connector and tighten the screws holding the wires and that seems to have fixed the problem.

Thanks

Hello James,

glad to hear that everything is working fine now, and great job with your investigation about the possible cause of the data gaps!

I’m sure that your message will be useful to other users if they will find themselves in a similar situation, thank you for explaining what you have done.
