Checking the GPS connection

Hello. we turned on two stations in Georgia. When testing in the office, we manually entered the coordinates and altitude, because we didn’t have GPS yet. I used it directly while working in the field. I read that in order for the GPS to start working, I had to turn off the sensor, connect the cable, and then turn on the Internet connection. I didn’t know this information before, but I remember exactly that in the field, I first connected all the cables and then turned on the sensor. When I checked before leaving, the location still showed the manually entered location, as well as the altitude… I thought it might take time, but I’ve been out for 1 week and it’s the same. In short, I’m wondering how I can find out if the GPS is connected or not, or if it is, how can I configure the sensor to take the GPS information and not the manually entered one.

Unfortunately, we don’t have IP access from the office, but if you explain how it can be solved, I might go to the field.

The station is connected to the Internet via a router, but we didn’t set a static IP and I think I made a mistake. I don’t have access to log files, for example.

As of now, our GPS module only provides essential timing information to the Shake so that any user can rest assured that the data they record is perfectly synchronized.

Thus, it is currently not possible to obtain location information from the data the GPS transmits to the Shake. However, this is a feature our development team is working on and will be deployed in an upcoming Shake OS release.

As usual, we will provide an announcement with all the details when the release goes live.

In conclusion, for now, you’ll have to update the Shake(s) location(s) once you get to where they are, in the same way you entered the coordinates the first time.

Then, if you set up a static IP address, or even better, a tunnel (we provide guidance here), you’ll be able to remotely connect to the Shake no matter where it is, as long as it stays connected to the internet.
