Authorisation Page on Web Portal Hangs

I’ve found some bugs with the new web portal.

If I login on the web portal, the second authorisation page hangs… it does nothing.

If I select Data View, Data View seems to remember my login from previous as my favourites are there. I guess that’s in cookies somewhere.

However, if I select Station View, my location is not remembered or detected (as I’m not logged in).

There are 2 ways I can get to the forum: If I select manage my profile (which remembers my profile - again I think through cookies), I can get to the forum from there, or I can select the Need Help button on the portal, and then go to the Technical Help Forum and remove the filter.

The concern I have, is with the authorisation page not working, I think if I clear or lose my cookies I can’t get in at all to my profile. If I’m not logged in can I post on the forum?

I am having a lot of trouble uploading images to this post. I’ve abandoned trying now.

I managed to get the first one up, but I’ve given up on the others.

I am running Firefox 129.0 (64 bit).

Thank you for the troubleshooting Al!

I have forwarded everything to the team (they are also taking care of the image upload situation) and I’ll update you when the login situation is fixed.

After that, we’ll see what other services we have to focus on, if the login fix doesn’t solve everything.

No change this morning - the authorisation page still hangs, but I did also notice that my profile keeps forgetting my country. I noticed my country missing from my profile and added it and updated the page, but today when I visited the page on the way to the forum (just checking rather than using a direct link) I noticed the change did not stick.

I’ve added it again today, just to check.

Hello sheeny,

The login issue has been fixed, and I’ve tested the procedure on Chrome, FF, and Edge (both normal and private windows). You should now be able to access our websites again.

If StationView continues to not offer a location selection when you load it on FF, you can reset its permissions by:

  • Typing about:preferences#privacy in the browser URL bar
  • And then going to Permissions > Location > Settings

If the list is empty or this doesn’t seem to work, you can Ctrl+F5 the page or copy/paste https://stationview.raspberryshake.org (without the coordinates that follow) into the URL bar.

One of the above should restore the location access query, and you should be able to return it to your usual display.

Updating on the other points you’ve made:

Thanks Stormchaser.

Login worked OK.

The Station View still isn’t right. I followed the instructions, and the settings allowed RS to know my location.

So I deleted the allow location setting, and Ctrl F5 and I got it come up with the full world map and it was then asking me for my location. I approved sharing of my location and it came up with this:

https://stationview.raspberryshake.org/#/?lat=29.83887&lon=121.55911&zoom=8.000

Which is clearly not right. I don’t know where it’s getting that lat and lon from.

Hello sheeny,

Great to hear that the login is now working!

Regarding the location coordinates issue, I am not sure why it is happening. I have tried to replicate it on Chrome and FF, in normal and private windows (and also in and out of my VPN, just to be sure), but my location was correctly found every time.

Location services are not dependent on the login process in any case, and browsers usually use your IP address to determine your approximate location and then redirect you to more dedicated services.

Can you try to delete your location settings again and then try to use this button
image
which appears high on the right when the SV world map is fully zoomed out?

If that doesn’t still work, maybe this article can help: Mozilla Firefox has my location wrong how can I correct or disable it. | Firefox Support Forum | Mozilla Support

Otherwise, the quickest solution would be to center/zoom in on your area and then directly bookmark that SV address so you can return there whenever you want.

G’Day Stormchaser,

I gave that a whirl. The bullseye button came up with the same location.

I checked my IP address and that has in Sydney which is reasonable (it’s only 2 hours drive away) - not in China.

The FF article didn’t help, but it’s definitely a FF thing - I tried Chrome and it behaves properly.

I guess it’s not a biggie, I have a direct bookmark that’s takes me straight to station view with my station centred anyway. I just thought I’d report it when I found it.

Hello sheeny,

First, absolutely! Report everything you see so that we are aware of the potential issue and see what can be done.

Second, our team has fixed the Country issue on the personal profile page, so you should be able to update it now (and it should stick).

Thank you again for the feedback.

Further update: the image upload should have been restored.

You should now be able to add pictures in your messages as before.
