All RS Stations "stale"; wont load any data in SWARM

Hi,

I am having issues with the SWARM and the Raspberry Shake network. To boil the issue down, I see all of the stations in the data picker window but all of them are greyed out or “stale”. This is only true for the raspberry shake devices and all non-RS devices are just fine. When selected to load the waveforms and live view, nothing loads. there isn’t a no data prompt, the window is just blank.

I’ve looked through the forums and manuals/tutorials provided for SWARM and the RS device but have found few references to this and no solutions. If this question isn’t appropriate for this thread or the forum in general, I apologize.

I appreciate any help or direction!

Here is the log file for my device even though I’m not sure if it is relevant.

Hello fergusonci, and welcome to our community!

Could I ask you to check if your data references in SWARM are as follows?
I’ll add the complete procedure for any reader who might not be familiar with SWARM:

  1. Open the Data Chooser window from the Window menu
  2. Create a new or Edit the current Data Source by clicking on the relevant icons
  3. In the new window, assign it a name (for a new Source), and then go to the FDSN WS tab
  4. In this tab, please insert/check the following:

Dataselect URL https://data.raspberryshake.org/fdsnws/dataselect/1/query
Station URL https://data.raspberryshake.org/fdsnws/station/1/query

  1. If not already selected, select Need Update from the dropdown menu, and then click on the Update button.

It may take a while, but once the process is complete, you can search the list for your desired Shake/Channel combo, and you should be able to then display it.

Regarding the logs (thanks for attaching them), everything appears fine for your Shake. Only a reminder, given by these lines:

2026 089 15:19:37: WARNING: This IP address indicates you are exposing your Shake directly to the internet at large.
2026 089 15:19:37: WARNING: This is discouraged since this exposes the Shake directly to bad actors.
2026 089 15:19:37: WARNING: Because this is an IoT unit, our recommendation is to place it on a local network
2026 089 15:19:37: WARNING: Where a router exists between the Shake and the internet.

As they say, for security reasons, it is preferable to put a modem/router between the Shake and the whole internet. However, it is not a critical concern, and I simply wanted to bring it to your attention.

Stormchaser! Thank you for the help!

I was previously using the Winston Wave Server with data.raspberryshake.org but the FDSN WS is working for me; I can pull up any station I want to!

I’m not sure why the Winston Wave Server stopped working as it was jut fine for the last couple months as far as I remember.

As for the unit being directly connected to internet and not through a router, this unit is connected at a university in the only way they allowed so I unfortunately cannot make any changes in that realm…

Anyway thanks again for the help!
