I got an email today stating my station ROOF5 has not been seen in a while. Is there possibly some firewall issue that is preventing my data from getting out to shakenet?

Hello Robert_Leonard,
Thank you for posting the logs of your Shake. From them, nothing appears out of place during the booting process, so we can be sure that the unit is operating as it should.
This is, however, out of place:
Station Info
------------
Data-Sharing Mode : OFF
Data Server Conn : OFF
Could you please reboot both Shakes again and then try the following procedure to see if it solves the connectivity issue?
Please access your
rs.local/
page, go toSettings
(the gear icon high on the left), and then theData
tab. Make sure that theForward Data
box is checked, and then clickSave and Restart
.The station should now be able to connect again.
If it does, then this error is caused by a known bug that we have examined and that will be solved in the next Shake OS v0.20 that we are currently in the process of releasing.
Thank you.
I’ve done as you asked… interestingly the Forward Data checkbox was already checked, despite what the logs seem to indicate. I am now running System Version 0.20, but still show server connection as ‘Not Connected’
Is it possible our firewall here at our school district may be blocking this?
What ports, at a minimum, do you need open outbound and inbound for this connection to work?
Outbound TCP port: ?
Inbound TCP:
Outbound UDP:
Inbound UDP:
Thank you!
Hello Robert_Leonard,
Yes, it is indeed possible. Since you have said that the unit was moved to a school, it is possible that more permissions are needed from the school IT administrator (like, for example, adding the unit MAC/IP addresses to their firewall exceptions). It would not be the first time that this has happened with school networks, due to their increased security protocols.
A complete list of the ports that need to be opened can be found here: Firewall issues? — Instructions on Setting Up Your Raspberry Shake
Once all of this has been done, the Shake should be able to connect.
