I have an old R-Shake I got years ago in minimal kit form, and had previously operated using a R-Pi Zero board with external USB-ethernet device, and external ethernet PoE block. It worked for a while but seemed to get hung up and go offline more than most units and I eventually stopped trying to reboot it. It has been offline for I guess at least a year now.
Now I would like to get it back working again, but I see the Pi Zero board I had been using for this no longer even boots up with its current uSD card at least. What is minimum recommended system for these? I think I have Pi2 and Pi3 board available in my spare parts box. Doesn’t seem like a Pi4 or Pi5 should be really necessary for this application and I think they draw more current. But maybe whatever the current OS is, wants that?

hello john,
yes, the pi-zero is not recommended given its “minimum” design. neither is the model-2.
both Pi versions model-3 and model-4, however, will work just fine, where the model-3 is the sweet spot between needed power consumption vs. actual power consumption.
cheers, hope this helps,
richard
