My internet connection is via mobile(cellular) connection. At the site where the Raspberry Shake is to be positioned, there will not be continuous connection. Does the Raspberry Shake/ Raspberry Pi conglomerate continue to record data whilst unconnected to internet?
Hello Roughdiamond, and welcome to our community!
The Shake does not require a constant internet connection to record and store data, even in a field installation. However, to ensure time accuracy, a GPS module has to be installed and connected to the Shake, so its time parameters will always remain at top precision. You can find more here in our manual: Recommendations for remote installations — Instructions on Setting Up Your Raspberry Shake and here: NTP and GPS timing details — Instructions on Setting Up Your Raspberry Shake
In your situation, if you have both an intermittent cellular connection, and a constant GPS satellite connection, there will be no issues in keeping the time properly synchronized, and, consequently, no issue in continuing to record all the data you need.
You can also set how many days you would like to be stored on the microSD card (the standard 8GB one we ship with the Shake can be good for up three to four weeks) so that, even if you cannot download data every day, what has been recorded will be safe on the Shake. If you require more storage space, you can then use an external USB drive connected to the Shake (more here: How to mount a USB to store the waveform archive — Instructions on Setting Up Your Raspberry Shake)
If you require anything else, I remain available.
